Plumbing Services

AC Systems

A well-functioning air conditioning system is important to your family and crucial to your business. 1st Ave Plumbing and Heating can repair any make and model of air conditioning system, and can set up a newer, better system if necessary. Some of our common services include:

Coolant recharge: Air conditioners need coolant to function, and it is dangerous (and illegal) to handle it on your own. 1st Ave Plumbing and Heating has it covered.

Air quality improvements: Cool, dry air blowing throughout your house may be comfortable during the summer months, but it may be potentially harmful if the air is full of pollutants and bacteria. Our duct and filter cleaning services will ensure that your home has a pleasant climate and clean air.

Distribution problems: If your air conditioner is working normally and the building is still not cooling down, there is likely a problem with the distribution system. We will run a diagnostic, then pinpoint and resolve the problem.

Plumbing Installation & Repair

The following are a few basic tips to safely performing drain cleaning:

One tip to safely cleaning a drain is to pour about a tablespoon of baking soda down the drain. Then, pour a half a cup of lemon juice or vinegar down the drain. Let the mixture sit in the drain for about 30 to 60 minutes. There will be a bubbling chemical reaction which breaks up the debris. Then, run really hot water through the drain to get rid of all the debris. Not only will this method clean the drain, but it will keep the drain free of odours. To ensure the drain stays free of debris, run hot water through the drain every few days.

To keep the drain clean and odour free, every week add the baking soda and vinegar or lemon juice mixture into the drain and run the hot water through it. This will prevent the accumulation of foreign mater and odours.

Hot Water Circulator

If you are building a new home or rehabilitating one, now is the time to put in a re-circulating loop! You will have no trouble installing the return loop lines and insulating all of the necessary pipes.

It is not hard to install hot water circulation loop In fact, over half of the work is already done as the plumber installs water supply lines to each fixture group in your new home. All a plumber has to do is install a 3/4 inch diameter line from the water heater that feeds all of the fixtures in the house that need hot water. He continues this 3/4 inch pipe throughout the entire house and branches off of it to feed hot water to each fixture.

But when he gets to the farthest fixture away from the water heater, he doesn't stop the line - as most plumbers do. Instead, he continues the 3/4 inch line all the way back to the water heater without interruption.

Water Heater

Draining the water heater will help eliminate any build up of sediment inside the tank, and help keep the water smelling fresh. To drain the tank, first turn down the temperature and let the water in the tank cool for a couple of hours. Turn off the cold water supply, and attach one end of a hose to the bottom drain valve and run the hose to a drain or outside the house. Open a hot water faucet in the house to let air into the top of the tank, and then open the drain valve on the water tank. When all the water has drained from the tank, turn the cold water supply valve off and on a few times, essentially flushing any sediment out of the tank. When the water coming out the drain valve runs clear, disconnect the hose from the drain valve, close the valve and refill the tank. Don't forget to turn off that faucet and turn the thermostat back up.

Toilets

The toilet is one of the most important fixtures in your home. Although toilets are sturdy and reliable components of the plumbing system, itís a rare homeowner or apartment-dweller that never has any problems with a toilet. Clogging is perhaps the most common toilet trouble, but it is far from the only one. The tank, for example, can make all sorts of strange noises, or water can run continuously.

If you're a do-it-yourself kind of person, learning some quick fixes can keep you from calling the plumber. Turn off the water to the toilet by turning the knob on the shut off valve to the right until it stops. The valve should be located a few inches above the floor on the left when facing the toilet.

Remove the tank lid and store it out of the way so that it does not get broken. Be very careful because they are NOT a standard item that can be easily replaced, especially if you have an older toilet.
